this was for ferb, my giftee for the 2024 minchan secret valentine. they wanted to have long lost lovers, supernatural, friends to lovers, soulmates and super kinky sex.
warning: i'm writing this post quite late (about 1.5 months later), so honestly a bunch might have slipped my mind because my memory's not the best.
i was soooooo excited to finally write for minchan (because i love minchan). minho tends to act like a princess next to chan and chan is always so smitten and endeared by his behaviour so i needed to get it and write it down. was the end result like that? no lol. because well, it wasn't entirely a casual setting and they had a history, a very delicate one when minho left to find and follow his own path.
it was the opposite for chan. chan was dirt poor, and had nothing growing up. his family were unable to provide for him and his siblings, so for what little money was offered, they sold him off to military recruiters when they had the chance. and that's how chan found his way to the palace.
as a scrawny kid with no prior training other than the common survival instincts he gained through living in the streets, chan wasn't strong by any means nor that he knew how to use a weapon. but he was smart and that's what allowed him to train on the palace grounds. it was then hyunjin who held noble blood and trained to be the next king's personal bodyguard that met chan first. then introduced him to changbin (the prince and then the king!!!!) and of course word got to minho, because if minho was not at his lessons, he was with changbin and hyunjin.
and that's how they met! though minho thought chan as stupid first because he was too selfless and probably because he had the biggest crush on him in which he didn't want to admit.
on the other hand, minho's crush wasn't one sided, but we have chan. who kept getting higher on the ranks. who carried the sense of responsibility and gratitude a bit more seriously than anybody could have. minho saw that and had no choice but respect his decision although it killed him from the inside, minho convinced himself it was enough to stand by chan's side as a supportive best friend. because when he finally had courage to confess, before he could put his words together, chan turned him down by lines like, "oh i'm glad for sungie that he found felix but i could never have that because i have this duty and these people that i'm responsible of and if i fall in love with someone i don't think it would be fair to both sides, so i will never chase love etc etc etc"
this didn't stop them from sleeping together though. each thought what they had was nothing more than casual exchange of pleasure because see, minho was sleeping with other people and letting chan know what they were doing in bed. "ohhhh he had me against that tree and i had to bite his neck to muffle my voice so we didn't get caught." or "ohhh he saw us together so i asked him to join because isn't three better than two." POOR CHAN. it did kind of turned him on, so it wasn't that bad.
two years into changbin's coronation, everything took a drastic turn when a curse encroached upon their borders. the curse devastated the land, killing plants and animals, making people sick, and rendering the soil unusable for farmers. as a result, many perished or were forced to abandon their homes, leaving them vulnerable to bandits who exploited the chaos. it took considerable time to uncover the root cause of the curse and put an end to it. before that, there were numerous casualties. soldiers tasked with maintaining peace and order fell ill, as did those attempting to study the curse. many felt hopeless, unsure of how the curse originated or who they were fighting against.
that's how chan was injured. fighting against the bandits with the effects of curse taking toll on his body left him bedridden. and that's how minho had to leave changbin's side for the first time, to heal chan, to make sure he didn't die. the soulmark appeared when minho was tending chan's wounds but he had to keep it to himself as it wasn't the right time. he hid it with a piece of cloth.
minho was one of the witches helping to stop the curse. (innie included!!) it took things from everyone; in minho's case the curse drained his magic, rendering his left arm useless most of the time. meaning the point of his whole life was stripped away from him. and he was angry for the turn of the events but i always viewed minho as someone who wouldn't let things stop him, or wouldn't spend his months crying over things he can't change. so in the fic he decided to use this new version of himself to try to find a life outside of what his bloodline provided, something he could build from the start. and that's how he left (chan included) and moved to the south.
chan had no idea to whom his soulmark belonged to until the night before the minho's departure, changbin being drunk and enough of his bestfriends being stupidly in love yet had no abilty to talk about it, he blurted out something with the lines of, "of course he is leaving and you are letting your soulmate go without even knowing it's him." because honestly, changbin never wanted chan to be this duty driven, never wanted him to feel this gratitious to the crown whereas his upbringing actually meant they actually failed him, and his family and he should rather feel resentment. and he hoped for his happiness, watched him and minho dance around each other, only for them to never taking a step! he was like "no way i'm letting these idiots be more idiot."
things didn't go right in one night, of course and took almost a year long until chan finally left his duties and then went after minho to chase his love! they made love! minho told him about the everybody else he fucked because how dare chan didn't follow him sooner! how dare he thought it was impossible with him!!! the end!!!!!
if you've come this far and read everything I'M SO SORRY i forgot how to write bc honestly this is the first time i'm writing something after weeks and this is a mess and i actually wanted to talk about their mental states, emotional phases but this is all i can get out rn. my worst fic talk..........................
(and if you squint enough you can maybe maybe see changjin was also the side pairing. and they communicated better than minchan.)
