[2024 fic summary]
Feb. 22nd, 2025 10:44 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
i'm almost two months late to do this
got the form from
infrequencies ♡
This year's WC: 29k + a lot of drabbles that i didn't count
Total Fics Written: 4
Looking back, did you write more fic than you though you would, less, or about what you predicted?
a lot less than i was hoping for.................. if only i was able to finish my wips or didn't lose interest in them.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
ateez!!! i don't know much about them, just what i see from my best friend's feed on tw or what she tells me haha but i’m pretty happy with how it turned out in the end! i’ll probably go back and edit soon though, because no matter how much i proofread before submitting, i think my eyes just get too used to the text and i end up missing mistakes???
What ship did you write the most this year? Character? POV?
if drabbles and wips count it is 2min.................... (i will get them out from the bottom of gdocs folder one day i swear)
if not, all are minho ships (even in the ateez fic 2min makes an appearance lol)
What was your favorite title this year? If from song lyrics, which artist did you use the most?
i can't really choose.................. but if wips count then it is "washed up at your shore" a 2min fic which i never got to know what to do with. a little snippet is here
Be honest... which of your own works have you re-read the most?
hmm............... i don't really reread my works until after a certain period passes BUT i reread them a lot when they are still unfinished and stuck in my gdocs folder lmao
Did you take any writing risks this year?
probably writing for a fandom i’m not actually in? it was pretty funny seeing tiff’s reactions to the little snippets i sent her bc they were suuuuuper vague and no more than a few sentences, so her imagination went wild hehe
Events you participated in this year?
minchan valentines gift exchange and skz mixtape: soulmates
Do you have any fanfic goals for 2025?
i'm keeping it simple with just two goals for now:
1- say more with less words
2- go through my gdocs folder and finally finish at least two fics stuck in there
From my past year of writing, what was…
My most popular story of this year:
everything has a weight (but it’s lighter with you) i feel like the openning could really use an editing session (i can never seem to write a good opening, 99% of the time i struggle with how to start my fics), but i feel like the smut parts turned out pretty well
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
paperplanes.................. no end to the ocean....................
Most fun story to write:
probably it was over cherry wine. i wrote it just in a week!!! it takes me SO much time to write a fic, so a fic completed in under a week???? that's awsome by my standards.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
everything has a weight (but it’s lighter with you) i just love minchan bed dynamics
Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:
okay, i had to think a lot about this question. i wrote two mcd fics this year, and while no end to the ocean had a lot of emotional buildup and the unreliable narrator aspect that kind of tricks the readers, i honestly think paperplanes truly deserves its that’s wrong, even for you title. i won’t go into too much detail about the first one, because grief makes you do the worst things, but in paperplanes, while i get why minho killed the person he was cloned after, why would you do that to poor changbin... i mean, YES i totally understand his logic, but they really TRULY had time together :((((((((
Hardest story to write:
kitchen nostalgia %100. it is still a wip but also the reason why i couldn't write anything from july 2024 to february 2025 lol
Biggest disappointment:
perfectionism + ocd = writer's block
Favorite lines from anywhere:
from no end to the ocean:
the ones i received on no end to the ocean.
something you learned this year:
that i should embrace my weird writing habits, that they are okay. the biggest one is that i can't write on a computer. i have no explanation for this, i don't know why the words never come out when i use my computer to write. i feel the most comfortable when i'm typing on the tiny screen my phone has, and i can't really change it....................
the cafes are also a no no for me. or any public spaces. there is no problem with reading a fic or working on the outline, but i can't really write when i'm outside.
that maybe i shouldn't join sooooo many fests/exchanges/bingos at once. bc when the deadline gets nearer, i just drop out, and make myself sad.
favorite fic you read this year:
the shouts of the stars by mochibbh
waving at you by afterthedisco
a charade in white by HoopyFrood
shades of black and white by afterthedisco
the stars are moving, step by step by dalkotokki
the fine line between secrecy and chaos by intheclowncar & jisungjuice
Did you gift any fics this year? Get any gift fics?
i did!! everything has a weight (but it’s lighter with you) was my gift for YouBurntTheSugar on ao3.
and i received two gifts:
the distance between us by Bow_andArroww
a very cute fic featuring minchan and their daughter ari
of caped drama llamas and super big brothers by SaraJaye
another very cute fe3h fic with my fav ship yuriashe + ashe's siblings

What’s your own favorite story of the year?
no end to the ocean. it did require a lot of rewriting, going back at forths but i'm very satisfied with how it turned out. i love its worldbuilding, the angst elements in it, all the parallels/metaphors, the little clues i left, the twist in the end + 2min's and the rest of skz relationship. i even wrote a commentary for it recently, almost a year after posting the fic

Favorite lines from anywhere:
from no end to the ocean:
“They asked me to pass them over to another research group,” Minho answers as he reaches for his beer and takes a huge gulp. Savors the bitter taste, swallows a frustrated exhale. “I won’t let them.”
“Of course you won’t. They are your fish.” And then, when Minho takes his time to answer, when he keeps his mouth shut and bare from any sound, his reluctance deforms into a force that pushes Seungmin to press on. “They are important to you. You are good at keeping things important to you.”
“That’s a very funny thing to say,” Minho answers with no humor. His gaze falls into his lap, where his fingers twist into a nervous knot.
“You insist on keeping me though,” He tells Minho, the gravity of the ocean in his voice slices through the words on his soulmark. “Even when it’d be easier to let go of me.”
Minho’s eyes snap back to Seungmin’s face. “What’s that supposed to mean, Kim Seungmin?”
“That it means we’re both very stubborn.” Seungmin settles with a finality that sinks like it’s the obvious. “That’s what I’m saying, hyung.”
It gets quiet after that. Seungmin does not look at Minho. Minho cannot look away from Seungmin. He stares at the man on his screen for a while, watches his every movement like he’s done for months. Notices the smallest imperfections the screen displays. On the tip of his tongue rests the pieces of hard swallowed truth Seungmin brought up. Down below his throat, the all built up expectation from being at the mercy of his desperate self sits like a heavy lump.
from paperplanes:
There was a very clean line in their life, from beginning to the end, fate didn’t prepare big surprises for either of them. Life started at Hailsham, ended on a hospital bed. Love came naturally, at the fingertips of Minho’s caring touch and his lips covering his own, the slow nights murmuring sunsets, the crickets, the lullabies. The walks at Verulamium Park. Feeding the birds. Falling asleep behind Roman ruins.
The constant every donor got used to. The reason for their sole existence was that their bodies were not their property. They were cloned from a source, nurtured to be owned by the source. Devoured. Limb by limb. Minho’s left kidney. Changbin’s right eye.
Changbin lived to let it happen, Minho did not.
most memorable comment:
the ones i received on no end to the ocean.
other reflections/comments about writing style or process:
my writing style/process sucks.
i'm super slow and edit a ton, like A LOT. i don’t stop until i'm satisfied, or WORSE, i end up rewriting entire scenes from scratch. the reason kitchen nostalgia is so close to being finished but also so far from it is because i’ve rewritten one part like six times, and i still can't get it right. another minchan fic is suffering from the same issue, to the point where i had to drop out of the minchan fest. so yeah, it’s a constant struggle.
also, english isn’t my native language, and even though i lived in the uk for two years, there are soooo many times i still find it hard to express exactly what i want without feeling like i'm constantly banging my head against a wall.
